On The Road to Inbound - Unexpected Benefits of Company Travel

In under a week, ProFromGo is heading to Inbound 2017 in Boston. This 4-day day long convention brings together business people, sales professionals, marketing professionals and industry experts for seminars, educational breakouts and interactive sessions. While we're there, we'll be making connections, growing ideas and developing the skills we need to succeed and grow our business.

...and that's just the tip of the iceberg. Company travel is good for businesses in lots of ways, and not all of those ways are immediately obvious. Below are just a few of the many reasons that we choose to attend great events like Inbound.

Employees Have Fun

Travel is fun! Most seminars and conventions are held in interesting cities. After a long day at the main event, employees are able to go out at night, see the sites and enjoy themselves. For employees who like to get out and try new things, company travel can be fun and exciting. People feel better about their jobs when they get to do something fun for work, and that can make them happier and more productive when they come back.

Adventures Bring People Together

Personal travel never goes totally according to plan, and that's true for company travel as well. Quirky things happen when planes, hotels and long car trips are involved. Classic travel problems like lost luggage and crazy taxi drivers can bring employees together as they solve problems and help each other out. The experience of working together on a singular mission in a strange city can be a team building experience that can help employees develop functional, productive relationships.

Time Outside the Office Encourages Creativity

People who spend everyday in the the office can easily fall into a rut. Over time, that rut makes it difficult to engage in creative thinking. Getting outside, going somewhere new and spending time with coworkers in a different setting can help staff think creatively. After coming back from a successful trip, many employees will experience a boost of creative energy.

Managers can take advantage of this creativity by planning to begin new projects as soon as the trip is over. Try to keep the momentum going after employees return. Some tips for helping capitalize on the benefits of company travel include:

  • Make a list of lessons learned when the trip is over.
  • Have employees share findings or make presentations to others from the office who were unable to go.
  • Store educational materials from the conference in a company library, where everyone can access them.
